Sunflower_sky_backdrop.jpgThe sunflower is more than just a pretty flower to look at. It can be used as food and even hair oil. Ever since its domestication in Mexico, people have used the sunflower from everything from food to medicine and dyes.

Sunflower seeds are very useful. They can be eaten raw, made into a meal, and can grow new crops each year. The seeds are easily grown and easily harvested. Sunflowers can grow in the worst places and still provide food and medicine. Two carbonated seeds from 4,500 years ago were found in Tabasco, Mexico and were healthy and ready to grow.

To this day, sunflower seeds especially grown in the Mississippi Valley are a popular treat. Sunflowers have been around since at least 2,600 B.C. and are sure to be popular for many more years.
